IL Divo lyrics - Who Needs it When They Sing from the Heart.

IL Divo setup

Artistic impression is a combination of many things. Here I will try to describe what I felt at the concert of Il Divo in Melbourne on 12 October 2009.

The concert of IL Divo in Melbourne was announced 6 months in advance. Tickets were not cheap ($154 a piece for Diamond Circle in Rod Laver Arena). The pop bel canto genre honestly is not my favourite, but I purchased the tickets as a gift for someone I really care about.

It started with the traffic. We drove to Rod Laver well in advance only to realise that it is jammed. We parked on some small street in Richmond and walked about 15 minutes. Hopefully it wasn't raining.

IL Divo audience

IL Divo singing attracted certain type of audience. I saw a lot of middle aged females in pairs, very few young people and not to many males at the concert. In the hall of Rod Laver we met IL Divo merchandising. I found it overpriced and not glamorous enough to be seduced. $30 IL Divo brochure, $65 IL Divo t-shirt, $30 IL Divo CD - you get the picture.

IL Divo - problem with the sound

I thing that Il Divo belong to the theatre.
Rod Laver is an arena - not a theatre. The plastic seats are not comfortable and I felt cheap. For some reason concert began 20 minutes late and no one bothered to announce that delay. That was not too bad. However when IL Divo began singing I realised that something went very wrong. Sound equipment was adjusted as if for a Deep Purple concert. To make things worse Il DIVO voices were deeply distorted. It was not something I could enjoy.

Public's reaction was positive because there were plenty of fans in the crowd. For this type a chance to see their pets live is sufficient. Il Divo were entertaining - making conversation with the audience, breaking ice etc. To my taste I found Carlos a bit sleazy but he knew his lady fans and made them happy.

IL Divo - first impression

I felt betrayed and gave myself a word never to be go to Arena concerts. We had to fight the desire to leave after the first half. Something happened after intermission.

When Il Divo continued sound changed to normal - no to very good! Suddenly the orchestra and singing became very close to CD quality. The contrast was amazing!

IL Divo energy

I forgave Il Divo immediately and swam in the music. Il Divo sing mostly in Italian but who needs to understand Il Divo lyrics! Physiological effect of 4 pure voices is so strong!

In front of us there was a couple of dressed up people. She was madly taking photos with the mobile phone camera, but her partner - who looked Italian to me - actually was crying when Il Divo sang "Mama".

The concert was smartly planned. Il Divo pretended to finish but audience of over-excited females became wild. Singers came back and sang couple of more songs this time accepting flowers, shaking hands of the queuing fans, signing the CDs and brochures. They finished on a very good note.

Artistic impression of Il Divo concert in Melbourne was excellent! The spoiled first half was completely forgotten.

Objectively IL Divo are the first class entertainers and professionals. Their programme is not for everyone but whos is? In any way I saw thousands of happy females at the concert of IL Divo in Melbourne - that counts!

the Il Divo concert in Melbourne

(not the typical teenaged girl)

Hey I'm new on this website, but I couldn't help but notice a review posted by somebody in regards to the Il Divo concert in Melbourne.

Personally, I believe much of the information to be false, as yes I may not have attended the Melbourne concert, however I happen to honestly be their biggest fan, ( no I am not one of the grandmothers at the concert, Im 17 years old and ive been their fan for 4 years now), and I also went to the sydney concerts- thats right both of them one day after the other, and stood in the front row.

At Melbourne maybe there were some technical difficulties faced with the sound, however even here when for a few moments the sound had ruined, Il Divo's grandeur voices covered it harmoniously and came through.

Also, the reviewer stated that they mostly sing in Italian, this is false. Yes many of their songs are Italian, and I get annoyed when people that don't know about them say : " oh yeah they're an Italian group"- NO they are not.
Carlos Marin is Spanish, Sebastien Izambard is French, Urs Toni Buhler is Swiss, and David Miller is American - where do you see the Italian? So you are right about many of their songs being Italian however the majority aren't.

The majority of Il Divo's great music is in Spanish, a mutual language for every member of the group as they each happen to speak it fluently. Personally, the 2 days I spent at the il divo concerts happened to be the greatest weekend of my life.

I also study music both in and out of school, I've been playing music till i was about 4 years old, and my friend works in the sound industry of the Sydney Entertainment Centre (where they performed one of the nights) , as far as he told me, everything went smoothly.

I'm sorry if I come off as aggressive, your review was not bad, but I think that as for 4 men with such amazing voices, and not the mediocre tenor voice, as Carlos is baritone, and David is leggero, no faultyness could have caused any let down in the crowd, and as you saw everybody left happy and that is what satisfaction means.

Also, the reason as to why so many elderly people were there, is because unfortunately, these are the majority of people who recognise good-quality music nowadays. When I attended, an elderly lady next to me asked me : " are you here with your grandmother?" I said, " no, I'm here alone, I'm their biggest fan."
She then interestingly said: " Oh wow...So you are not the average teenager, like my grand daughter who is obsessed with those... Johns brothers?" I replied, " the Jonas brothers...and No mam, I am not the typical teenaged girl, but to be honest with you, I take pride in that because it shows that I can recognise good music."
